Project Description
What is Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy Florida (EPAT)?
Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy is an innovative highly effective and non-invasive treatment for many orthopedic disorders of muscle and tendon. EPAT treatment belongs to the new type of treatments called regenerative orthopedics.
Why is EPAT considered a biological treatment?
EPAT therapy promotes self-tissue healing (tissue regeneration) on a cellular level through activation of the body’s own healing responses on a cellular level.
What kind of energy is used in EPAT Florida?
EPAT uses acoustic or mechanical energy to treat diseased tissues in musculoskeletal system.
– The strong mechanical pulse exerts pressure and a tension force on the afflicted tissues (damaged cells). The mechanical or acoustic signal is transduced within the cell into a biochemical signal. This creates an increase in cell membrane permeability which promotes new localized capillary (blood vessel) regeneration. This is achieved by a cellular response of the release of special enzymes called growth factors which are the main precursors of tissue healing.
– EPAT can remodel damaged tissues by altering tissue plasticity.
– EPAT breaks down pathological deposits of calcium in the soft tissues, which is followed by the absorption of the calcium. An excessive deposit of calcium in soft tissue is believed to be the underlying pathological condition for many types of musculoskeletal pain (e.g. painful shoulder tendonosis/tendinitis).
– EPAT stimulates osteoblast activity (bone cells) which is responsible for healing and new bone growth.
In summation, the waves that are transmitted through the surface of the skin are spread into the body and the body responds with increased metabolic activity around the area of the pain. This stimulates and accelerates the healing process and is especially useful for those suffering from chronic heel, shoulder, knee (patellar tendon), Achilles, elbow, neck and back pain.

“I am 56 year old female runner and have been active my whole life. As I was ramping up my miles to get ready for my next marathon I started having excruciating pain in my right foot when waking up every morning. It started affecting my overall mood let alone the pain I was feeling when running. Eventually I had to give up running and was diagnosed with plantar fasciitis. I started to seek different types of therapy from a podiatrist to physical therapists I was not getting any relief. Finally after 6 months of pain and suffering, a friend of mine referred me to Integrated Medical Center and I started getting my sanity back. They performed an exam and determined the cause of my pain. Yes, I had inflammation in the area of my foot but the cause of the problem was my hips were tight and it affected my gait! They took a team approach to treat my issues. First, in order to decrease inflammation I opted not to inject my foot with cortisone but instead inject a safe all natural blend of minerals to help reduce the inflammation. They used Active Release Techniques to help improve my hip and low back range of motion as well as use shockwave therapy to stimulate healing in my foot. Amazingly after the first injection I started getting relief in my foot and after 3 sessions of ART my hips felt looser and I was able to start running again!!! Thanks IMC for all your help.”
